K/1st/2nd Grade Instructional Level Lacrosse Program

2018 will represent the 9th year of the Mason Lacrosse Club Instructional Program and the feedback continues to be outstanding.  The kids have a blast and the schedule allows plenty of time for them to enjoy other sports and activities.

This will be an eight week program offered for both girls & boys in Kindergarten thru 2nd grade.  The program will begin in early March and run through mid-May.  The focus of the program is instructional and developmental in nature.  We will introduce each player to the fundamental skills necessary to play lacrosse in a fun and safe environment and we will educate them on the rules of the game.

The boys program will consist of weekly practices during which all players will practice together in a station-to-station format.  Practices will graduate from drill introduction and rules of the game to skill development and team concepts.

Teams will be established based on the number of participants.

Boys’ teams will play approximately 10 games (including tournaments) over the course of the program against area clubs of like skill and ability.

Games are officiated by team coaches and are not scored (except tournaments) as to allow players to perform the drills and skills learned during practices.  This will allow players to apply what they have learned up to that point while experiencing live game play to prepare them for the following season.

Girls lacrosse programs for grades K/1/2 in Southern Ohio is small, but growing every year. Mason Lacrosse Club has been a leader among the local programs dedicating coaches and field space to help promote the sport. Members of the Girls Varsity High School Team help out our adult coaches bring actual playing experience and fun into the mix while teaching the game of lacrosse.

The coaching staff coordinates with other local K/1/2 girls programs to run a few 'Round Robin' or 'Sticks In' tournaments. Also the coaches frequently create intra-squad game situations to prepare the players for full field games.
Players will receive a reversible Mason Lacrosse pinnie that must be worn at every practice session and game. Instruction will be provided by both volunteer parent coaches & members of the Mason High School Varsity & JV teams (with adult supervision).

Players must provide their own equipment to participate in lacrosse.  We strongly urge parents to:

  1. Purchase used or second hand equipment for first time players at Play It Again Sports or another sports consignment store.

  2. Borrow the equipment from a neighbor/friend.

  3. Utilize our “Equipment 4 Sale” tab on our website to purchase good second hand equipment from other Mason families.

  4. For boys, it is highly recommended that you purchase a stick with a mesh (soft) pocket.

It is not recommended to purchase top of the line equipment for this age level.  Please refer to the Boys or Girls Info tabs on the website and select either the “Girls or Boys Equipment Info” tab from the drop down menus for additional information regarding equipment needs.  The best time to purchase good, used equipment is in the fall and prior to January 1st
